Install a central heating filter and potentially improve your heating efficiency and life of its components

A central heating filter will remove the dirt and particles from your system. Know as “sludge” this substance blocks up pipes, accumulates in radiators and collects in heating components such as boilers, pumps and valves.

This reduces the efficiency of your heating as the hot water from you boiler cannot flow correctly due to narrowing pipes. The pump has to work much harder to move the water around the system. System valves and heat exchanges in your boiler become blocked (in combi boilers this can results in no hot water available at the hot taps). Sludge accumulates in the bottom of radiators which slowly builds up results in increasing poorer performance.

A central heating filter is generally installed between the last radiator in the system and the boiler. This removes particles from the system. When your boiler has its annual service your A B U Gas & Plumbing engineer will also clean your filter and add an inhibitor solution with reduces the production of sludge.

For older systems (over 2 years) a power-flush is recommended before the installation of a filter in order to remove the already present sludge.
